Visited a month before with friends for coffee & cakes & discussed the negative comments on the "reviews" with the owner. As a result of an honest discussion we booked a xmas dinner for 4 people, including a wheelchair bound relative. The meal & personal service from the head chef were outstanding, the wheelchair access was obviously considered by the staff & they proved very helpful & friendly. Having compared the prices of xmas dinners with local establishments here in Surrey, I do not consider the prices at The Mayfly extortionate & allied to the location & the views/walks nearby I consider the ambience as warm & welcoming.I am NOT in the trade or related to any employees/owners of the Mayfly & only emphasise my status to verify that one of the attributes of the internet is that negative reviews can be inserted without any personal responsibility. Four of us went on Saturday 1st May for dinner.Three of us ordered rib eye steaks cooked in 3 different ways. The steaks were tough and tasteless.I went to comment at the counter after the first two mouthfuls and had a converation with the chef who showed me vacupacks of the other raw steaks and tried to assure me they were something other than I experienced. My husband and I have many years experience in the restaurant trade each and we were neither impressed by the food nor attitude of the staff this particular evening. We won't be rushing back nor recommending it to friends I am afraid. We have been there for drinks in the summer and have enjoyed sitting by the river as it is in a lovely position. The food is expensive for what it is though.....supermarket quality steaks at high prices.

We visited the Mayfly to celebrate my wifes 60th birthday with a party of 15 family members. Our 18 MONTH old grandson picked a couple of pettles from some flowers on the patio and as a result we were verbally berated by the very rude owner and threatened with being evicted from the pub! WARNING: Don't go to this pub with young children or better still don't go at all.

My daughter and I have eaten at the Mayfly on a number of occasions and never had cause for complaint. On the last occasion we called in for a snack on a cold day and ordered soup of the day, which was broccoli and Stilton. We were served with a very large, deep bowl of hot delicious soup, together with a large roll. The portions were such that we only needed a snack later on in the evening. We have never had other than good food and fair portions at the Mayfly.

Whilst this Pub is located in beautiful surroundings be prepared for receiving CHILDRENS portions when ordering food. My father who is 90 his only treat of the week is to be taken out on a Sunday. As we eat our main meal of the day in the evening we needed a snack so choose the cheese platter as the assistant started to cut off inicule portions (about an inch long) I did protest only to be told for £6.50 we did also get salad and a bread roll.Even the salad comes without tomato unless you again ask for one. So be prepared to feel cheated and disappointed.

My wife had fishcakes, and I had a lamb tagine. Both were served with a salad that was fresh and plentiful, including some tasty watercress. The dishes were slightly on the pricey side, but both were very tasty and well presented. An excellent meal in a lovely location.
