I heard about this pub through close friends of mine. My Husband and I came to the pub for a meal. we had a lovely meal food was cooked to perfection and the service was very friendly and efficient. Although on various other occasions we have noticed the land lords lack of support to staff when busy, and also how long you could be waiting to get served for a drink.

I have been coming to this pub and restaurant for several years and love living in Rowlands Castle. This pub was taken in over in about 2002 after a successful stint by a very popular landlady but things had to change. Roger and Jan brought with them a friendly and personable approach and quickly built up a report with the villagers competing in a very close nit community. The choices of ale and local wines were welcome as was the change in catering. New catering staff and a new menu! However, whilst the landlady is away, the eye is taken off the ball and the service suffers badly. I have had a couple of experiences of this over the last couple of years but put it down to experience but enough is enough. The food was again over cooked, rushed and poor attention to detail. The rather sullen waitress continues to cultivate her mood and pays little attention to customers unless called over - which she appears to take exception too. The last meal I had there was frozen in the middle and whilst there was some attempt at a rather sozzled apology from the landlord, I was still asked to pay for the wine and not offered an alternative. Had the landlady been there, I know she would not have been happy with this! Her attention to detail, friendliness and military control are qualities clearly missing from the venue. I am afraid this was one chance too many. How disappointing to see a pub/restaurant assume it has the monopoly on good food and wine and not continue to protect its once high standards! How disappointing that I am compelled to review this establishment to the detriment and perception of what the village has to offer.
