We were a party of four and 30 minutes after finishing our starter we still had no main course and no one had been to tell us there was any delay, ask if everything was ok or ask if we would like more drinks. We eventually got someone’s attention and got more drinks and asked about the main course. No information was forthcoming and the empty glasses were left on the table. After a further 15 minutes and no update on when we could expect to eat one of our party went in search of someone who could tell us. This initiated a spate of apologies and excuses that they were busy. Several tables around us, which arrived after us, had finished their starters and mains by this time. One hour after finishing our starters we eventually got our main course. As for the food, it was reasonable but certainly NOT worth the wait. Avoid salad. They have perfected a way of making every ingredient tasteless by a generous coating of oil.

Time away is always so precious when living in busy London, but Calcot is so relaxing i just didnt want to go home. The rooms, gardens, and conservatory are all amazing, but in particular the Gumstool & spa are exceptional.
Im sure my friends have become bored from all the praise I have given Calcot since returning home. The gumstool offers by far a quality menu that would put alot of restaurants to shame. The spa has a wealth of treatments on offer, the only problem was there wasnt enough hours in the day to enjoy all of them. The hotels main asset is their staff, willing on many occasions during our stay to go out their way to make our holiday even more special.
We will certainly be returning soon!

Incredibly neither my parter nor I had visited The Gumstool Inn, despite only living five minutes away.
There was every reason to book, on what was a cold Tuesday Night, some 70 or so foodies were out tasting its culinary delights.
In from the cold we rushed to the lounge style chairs positioned in front of a roaring wood fire, inspecting The Gumstool's very tempting menu with two gin and tonics.
We were shown to our table and ordered. We did not have to wait long for our starters, both were of good qaulity and very tasty. Mains were prompt, served piping hot and again faultless. We turned down dessert, but will definately try one on our return visit. Service was sleek and professional. A really enjoyable evening.

We had dinner for a party of 8 No on the above date.
We were most disappointed by the quality of service and for the first time ever did not leave a tip!
The waiters/waitresses were badly trained and it was very evident there was a lack of effectual management.
We sat for 20 minutes without any attendance.We had to get up to ask for a menu and for drinks.
It was an hour from sitting down to when the starter was served.
The service had to be seen to be believed.
The desserts were delivered at different times (5min intervals!)
There was even a large cobweb hovering above the table.
We will not be going there again.

Very poor service by staff who simply plonk your food down in front of you. Our booking wasn't registered despite booking 10 days previously. Whether as a result of this or not, I'm not sure, but we were sat on a table of two separated by no more than 20 cam from our neighbours. This meant we herad everything they said and vice versa.
The food was ok, except the beranise sauce for my wife's salmoln was bought out only once she'd finished her course.
There's no way this restaurant, the food, service or overall experience is worth a michelin star. Very dissapointing and we shall not be going back.

Large Room, with dining areas off and a blazing log fire - The Gumstool Inn is a nice place to while away a few hours. It had a surprising buzz for a rural establishment and a good menu turning out more than decent food. A proliferation of staff ensured very attentive service although there were a good 70 people enjoying dinner on a very cold monday night so there was plenty to do. All in all a good experience - 8/10

Very poor Mackerel dish. Inexpensive, but bearing in mind that Mackerel is an inexpensive fish to buy, the fish should still be of full size, and therefore sustaining and satisfying. Menu gave "deep fried Capers" as an accompaniment. I had none, though I did have rocket.
If it had not been for the vegetables, I would have finished the evening quite unsatisfied. As it was, I felt very disappointed and as though I had eaten a starter with vegetables rather than a main course.
