Reviews of Half Moon, Sherborne

Best rates for a Local Hotel

We used to stay quite regularly, and my family used it for a celebration weekend once, and (some of them having travelled from Scotland,) were enchanted by its setting and decor. Of course, it did help that we knew the Managers and some of the staff at that time. What a waste of a good hotel, as I imagine lots of tourists seeking rural towns and abbeys would have loved to stay there....The Plume of Feathers, at that time, was also owned and run by the same (Toby/Bass) company, and visiting it was a step back in time, but with all mod cons. Some changes are not for the better it seems, and it's always a shame to read how things have been allowed to go downhill, when one remembers the 'good ol' days!' Unfortunately, the Manager we knew (along with his loyal staff)is long gone, and they broke the mould when he retired! One can but hope that someone will come along and revitalize this once vibrant and very pleasant hotel.

If you were filling in a survey about the Half Moon and you were looking for a lovely country pub, good food, great service, quality beer and most of all a friendly atmosphere then this place ticks all the boxes! Let me clarify, that would be all the boxes that said "no". I was going to say I quickly finished my pint and left but I found it so warm and flat it was undrinkable.

I very much like the English pub and i call into the Half Moon for some drink. Fernando he say to me 'Hurry up or I serve someone else'. I laugh! He is so funny. But then he serves someone while I laugh. After only 3 or 4 other customer he ask me again. He is such a nice man.

From the outside it looks promising but take a step inside and welcome to the pub experience from hell! I assume that poor customer service is one of their targets because they achieve it with distinction! Most of the staff (and I presume it was the owner although we tried not to engage in too much conversation with him) appeared rude and patronising. As for the food, Cumberland Pie ( described as Cottage Pie with a topping of melted chedder cheese) tasted more like Shepherds Pie to me!

This pub is completely lacking in any character. It used to be lovely in the hands of the previous landlords but was then taken over by a very rude and unwelcoming landlord who hasn't got a clue about running a friendly bar. It has become more like a chain, with all the staff in matching uniforms and not allowed to talk to the customers. .

an appalling pub run by a rude man called 'Fernando' who asks you to hurry up or he'll "serve someone else" when you try and engage in any small talk with him. Foul food, soulless atmosphere, foreign staff, warm beer...... avoid it like the plague.
