Good Points: Food excellent. General review: Good value for money. Room could do with a bit of a revamp but adequate. Staff helpful and friendly.

The food here is wonderful, and is well worth a visit. It is both imaginative and well realised, subtle flavours complimented by a wine list that provides good value and taste, in fact I think I had the most flavoursome bottle of pinot grigio I've ever drunk here. I like the fact that all the local suppliers of meat and other provisions are listed, and certainly everything really tasted fresh. In terms of decor the bar is fine and slightly quirky as places of this age often are, and the bar staff are helpful and welcoming. The decor in the restaurant is another matter altogether being very dark and covered in english civil war pictures, like a depressed cavaliers hideaway, dark furniture, darker walls and even darker panelling, it looked very tired and could use someone with a bit of visual flair to transform it into a lovely room. However this was nothing compared to the room we stayed in, I've slept in many odd places in my time but nothing quite as tacky as this (or as prone to strange noises from the central heating/water system in the night). Everything was very clean and all the usual toileteries etc were provided and the furniture was comfortable enough it was just just it was so badly done, the home made plywood panelling that the room was clad looked as it had been done by someone who had failed woodwork at blind school, and the mismatch of fittings, an oval bath a most peculiar illuminated mirror ill fitting tiles really uncomfortable bed etc. Perhaps I'm being mean but when one spends a hundred pounds for a night even in London I would expect a lot better than this. I would not normally comment but as we were going another customer was getting into a heated discussion with the staff complaining about the shortcomings of his room. Anyway in summation I would eat there anytime the foods great, just book a taxi and find somewhere else to stay!!!

we found that on a quiet day like today we waited over half an hour for our meal, my husband waited so long at the bar he ended up fetching water from the car in the end because no staff ever came. The food looked nice when it eventually came but was completely tasteless, the chips were frozen, the batter revolting and the peas knackered. The staff were freindly when you could find them, we wold have been better off at the local fish and chip shop. Very disappointing

A group of friends went to Hoops Inn for lunch on Saturday. Although the restaurant had a good atmosphere and the food was good, the service was poor. The staff were rude, abrupt and lacked customer service skills. Meals arrived one at a time and were over priced. All in all wouldn't recommend it and certainly won't be going back.
