Further to my comments below I have just had another great week in Parracombe eating at THE FOX AND GOOSE. The food is terrific(but not cheep, then quality comes at a price). The staff are first rate and are willing to help with anything you may require. I am now thinking of staying bed and breakfast next year when next in the area. I still can recomend this country pub without any qualms. Thanks guys.

After looking at the bad review above I felt I had to add my comments. My wife and I stayeed on a nearby farm and had our evening meal in the pub every night and thoughraly enjoyed the food and company. We are returning on the 25th for a week and intend to eat there again for our evening meals so if the same people are in charge I can recommend giving it a try. G cave 21/6/2011

As the owner of the Fox and Goose, I felt irritated by the above comment. I accept that you may have found the Fish stew to not be up to scratch, we have since rectified a problem we were having, but as regards to the dessert, I, being the dessert maker, have never bought a shop tart in my life, and I take great care and pride over the effort I put in. May I suggest that the gentleman make clear of his facts before he writes a damming report in the future. Criticism I will accept, mis-representation I will not. Thank you, I feel better now.

Fantastic dining pub with an idiosyncratic main room - lots of stuffed animals and 'real' ornaments etc. Good range of real ales. Food expensive though and 2/3 of my courses failed to hit the spot. The scallops for starters were beautiful but the Bouillabaisse for main was not good with the main fish meat being skate's wing. Aside from having to fish out loads of bones from a soup the taste was almost of ammonia as the flesh came off the bone. Pudding was lemon tart with clotted cream - nice clotted cream but the tart was a slice of Tesco's or Sainsbury's own and at £4.75 was a disappointing way to a finish a meal. Shouldn't a dining pub make all it's own food including the puddings?
