Stopped for a drink and a bite to eat. Not disappointed... New landlords, by the looks of things who made us most welcome. Food was homecooked and very tasty. Would recommend a trip out as the area is lovely and the pub is typical of the old country style pubs that are much lacking these days. Excellent

Unfortunately, my experience wasn't so satisfactory. Despite booking one week beforehand, they'd sold out of some courses before we got there, they found it acceptable to serve up blackened chips, only to tell us that they couldn't replace them because they'd run out! We were not given the option to order dessert - in fact nobody even asked for our order, and the attitude of staff was appalling; treating us like we were an inconvenience. Obviously, our faces fit!

This is a gem of a place, far enough away from the noise of matloch bath, but within walking distance to matlock, Riber castle and the touristy bit itself. Lovely homely rooms, great breakfasts, even better evening dinners and an abundance of real ales, What more could anyone want ! Realistic prices and frienly staff make this a returnable calendar visit every year.
