After a nice 86 mile drive from Tunstall in lancashire we was looking forward to a nice tastly meal and we was not disappointed the fox and barrel will go from strength to strength I only with some of our local gastro venues would take a leaf out of their book, well done all keep up the good work

Was very dissapointed, the food was barely warm and served on cold plates, my main course of steak was served but I had eaten it by the time the potatoes and vegetables had arrived, four other members of the party had to send there meals back,but it returned in a worse state than when it went, I suspect it had just been microwaved, It would have been nice to experience the food when they had won the Cheshire dining pub of the year 2003 !

Sadly, in the last two years this place seems to have gone downhill foodwise. I ate there yesterday with a friend. In general the food was very average. Starter was ok. As my friend was following this with a baguette, I asked for one two. There were only four to choose from and the only vegetarian one was cheese. I asked if there was an alternative - answer 'No' I then asked if it was possible to have an egg baguette. The only way they would do this for me was to have it filled with scrambled egg, as they were scramling eggs for a starter. How long does it take to boil an egg for a diner? It duly arrived filled with grey, far from hot, scrambled egg - it was yuk! The desert was no better. I asked for mandarin cheesecake. This concoction arrived - some fluffy mixture with no taste or trace of mandarin, seated on a thick 'concrete' base which I had to use a spoon, fork and knife to break (left most of the base; my friend tasted it to and agreed with me) Worst of all, I mentioned this concrete base to one of the staff to which she replied, 'Gotcha' - what the hell was that supposed to mean? Needless to say, we are crossing the Fox and Barrel from our list.

Dropped in on the off chance with my friend today for lunch as it looked attractive from the outside. NOT disappointed. Great food, wonderful service, good atmosphere. Best Ploughman's lunch I've ever had. Extensive menu cooked by a great chef. visit, but don't go too often as I want there to be a table free for me for future visits
