This is an extract from email received from Roger & Angela.. " Dear Mr & Mrs Scott Thank you for making our 2 night stay this week so memorable. We both agreed that your hotel, food, service and efficient pleasant staff were excellent and we were very sorry we were not able to stay for a longer period. You have the formula absolutely right, congratulations , we will return" Neil BM Scott

I love arriving at good hotels in bad weather; there is something hugely comforting about getting out of the rain and into the warmth and scents of a hospitable hostelry. Not that outside Bowmore’s Harbour Inn the scent is at all bad – it is 50m from the Bowmore distillery and 10m from the sea. Spacious room, good bathroom, comfy bed, but the whole point of Islay for all right thinking people is surely the whisky, and it would have been rude not to take a dram or two with the evening meal. A good intro to Islay is actually a blended scotch, Black Bottle, which contains something from each distillery on the island, but the highlight was the Bunnahabhain (say Boona-Harv’n) 18-year-old, smoothly Christmas-puddingy with loads of sherry flavours and dried fruit, the two taken either side of my fabulous meal of dried whisky-infused venison followed by big local scallops in vermouth sauce (what, no whisky?). Still managed the smoked haddock next morning before setting out though. Great place, friendly service, very good night’s sleep (I may have had another whisky or two later), and the prospect of distilleries to come. A definite recommend.

We have been meaning to write to you ever since we arrived home to thank you for making our holiday on Islay so enjoyable. The accommodation is superb, the hospitality warm and welcoming and the food delicious. (We hope the Michelin inspector's visit during our stay will be rewarding.) A special thank you to all the girls who waited on us, as we didn't get to see them all before we left. It was lovely that they were so friendly and helpful. Despite the cold northerly wind throughout our stay, from our photos you would think we were in the South of France! Thought you might like to see one or two of them. We hope to visit Islay again in the future and look forward to staying at the Harbour Inn once again.
