We got to the hotel late on Friday night having pre-booked, to be shown to a room where the bed was unmade and the cups were filthy. I've never experienced such a lack of service.

On face value the Richmond Hotel looks like your traditional UK b&b, but after staying there 2 nights we were very disappointed. Our room was at the front of the hotel and was very noisey at night. It is in need of some serious refurbishment, having said that work was being carried out in the reception area during our stay. Bed linen and towels were exellent but the table cloths on the breakfast tables can only be described as dust sheets. The room was very dusty which i found anoying and broken bathroom tiles potentially dangerous. The breakfast was very poor, I think it was ment to be a continental affair, but Mr kiplings apple pies? A full english breakfast is not included in the price of the room and if you order one it will set you back £7.00. not cheap. Although the 2 staff we were aware of were friendly I found them to be so laid back it came across as though they couldn't be bothered. The Hotel is centrally located and exellent for a base, but more attention to detail and providing a more professional approach would I believe make this establishment an exellent hotel. As it is at the moment, after reading this review and come to your own conclusions. Good luck, Edinburgh has lots to offer.

This Hotel was great!! The rooms were clean had everything you wanted, but no mini bar.The staff are so friendly and realy helpful. This hotel has a restaurant which has fantastic food!! and a nice lounge with a fire place and bar.The hotel is a 5 min walk from the city. I would so stay there again. The review from June whitelaw is unfair and she sounds like a bitter women. Thank you the richmond house hotel for a great stay!! Colin

This establishment advertises itself as a 2 star STB awarded hotel. It was awarded to the previous owner and since this owner took over the premises in April 2006 has been advertising this award and indeed has not registered with the STB. It has no diningroom, restaurant nor lounge.
