Today we travelled all the way from Boston Lincs to view the Moira Furnace in Leicestershire only to be met by surly and seemingly under aged staff that did not know much at all about the building and surrounding area. When i tried to complain i was told there was no manager available and the whole site was managed by a trust who would probaly not care anyway. However i have recenctly found out that the site is overseen by Leicestershire council and i have written to them outlining my concerns.READERS BE WARY OF THIS PLACE

I took a party of school children to the site on the 4th July. Although the children enjoyed the day I feel thet the attraction needs to be aware of the needs of the range of age groups that it hopes to attract. After even a relatively short journey, Nursery age children need to use the toilet and this needs to be put into the planned day. Unfortunately it wasn't and the staff were told that they should hurry up as the children now were putting the timetable out! It is essential that the staff understand that the children need to be fully occupied at least for the first hour. Some groups were not and this meant that the staff were searching for activities rather than being directed to bug hunting / pond dipping at the start of the day. The soap making / clay work were good fun and the children all enjoyed the shop (an essential for any school trip) which included good quality gifts with pocket money prices. If the weather had been worse we did not find covered areas that would have given enough shelter although this was promised on the website and other literature. We were also told taht the staff were CRB checked and quite capable of keeping the children fully ocuppied while the staff went for a coffee etc. This was not the case and we did not feel confident that any of the museum staff were experienced enough to be left in charge of our children some of the staff seemed to be underage eg. at the Soap making and Victorian Games. Although we enjoyed this trip we would not return or recomend it to other schools with out a rethink of the staffing and timetabling of all events.

I would just like to say how great the childrens Easter activities were on Monday 9th April! I took my nieces ages 6 and 9 and took part in the Easter Egg Hunt, had their faces painted, painted masks and even went for a ride on the canal boat all at a really reasonable price. It was a great idea to run the activites and they were all ran and staffed really well. I would definately recommend this to others as it was a great day out!

We often enjoy a walk from the Furnace using Donisthorpe Country Park, the canal towpath and the Ashby Woulds Trail. However! - the entrance to the car park (by the play area) is appalling - there are many unavoidable potholes and filled with puddles in wet weather. This has been the situation for a long time and is, in my opinion, a very unfortunate start to a visit to what should be a major tourist attraction. When are the powers that be going to do something about it?
