This used to be a great place to stay but it changed hands last year and has gone downhill. The heating goes off at 11pm and does not come on until 7am. On a cold November night I froze under a thin blanket. I "borrowed" a heater for the following 2 nights and left it on all night. TVs are still analogue, so only 5 channels and no batteries in the remote control. A bedside clock had no power socket to plug it into to make it work. In the bathroom I had a bad feeling it had not been cleaned. The shelf in the shower still had used bar of soap on it. The glass shelf had soap and toothpaste marks on it. Towels where not changed, even though they where left in the bath as notices said. The carpets had little bits of paper on them and where not cleaned while I was there. The meal the first night was OK but expensive for what we had. The other two nights no food was available, the chef was off sick. As a result we found the only highlight of the stay, the Wentworth Arms pub, a very short walk away. Just over the railway bridge. Fantastic meals at reasonable prices, £7.99 for a Mega Mixed Grill, which in spite of trying very hard and not having eaten for 7 hours, I could not finish.

On behalf of my family I wish to say how much we enjoyed our Christmas lunch with you. The food and service was excellent and we will all definately be returning for Christmas lunch next year.

Lovely setting - clean and comfortable room - staff that couldn't be more helpful and pleasant - good food. All in all a very enjoyable week-end.
