Have just returned from Galmpton Park. The view is fantastic. The park is quiet and peacefull. We took our caravan and booked a de-luxe pitch (which was perfect). Had plenty of room. However, on the other caravan field I feel it could get a little cramped later in the season. Washing facilities were spotless, plenty of hot water (and it is very hot), showers and toilets. Depending on where your pitch is chocks are necessary. My only criticism (and it is minor)is our pitch was at the bottom of the site and in order to get to the chemical disposal point you either had to walk uphill or drive. However the car cannot be taken right up to the disposal point so strong arms are required to get up the last part of the hill (steep). There is lots to do in the surrounding area and some very nice beaches. Children and adults will enjoy crabbing and one of the best places is Stoke Gabriel. All in all though a very pleasant stay (weather was good) and would definately go back again and would reccomend this site highly.

I've just been round the websites writing reviews on the wonderful fortnight we had at Galmpton Touring Park at the beginning of August and was really surprised to see the negative review by the previous poster. I feel I have to reply! We were there at the same time, but seem to have had totally different experiences! We couldn't have been happier and definately plan to go back to Galmpton. It really is a gem - a friendly family run site with a view to die for! It was our first visit but we'll definately be back again. The pitch sizes were perfectly fine - a nice amount of space for the camper, awning and some space between us and the other campers. At one point it did get a bit squished due to a couple of campers putting up massive awnings. The campsite owner actually came and apologised to us for this as he said they hadn't been told they were larger than normal awnings when the other people booked so there was less room between the pitches than there should have been. The campsite does forbid the use of non-breathable groundsheets (totally sensible to my mind - it woudn't be a nice place to camp with lots of dead grass round the place). We were told that several people had found using no groundsheet to be better, but this was said as a tip passed from one camper to others, not as a 'you can not use groundsheets'. The site overlooks the River Dart and has a stunning view. We were asked for the size of our camper when we booked as the owners say they're very careful to choose the best pitch for each person, and make sure everyone gets a good view. It's a quiet site with no bar or entertainment (bliss!). There's a nice play area for the kids including a galleon play area, small boat, swings and a slide. The toilet block is large and very clean. There's a washing up and laundry area which helpfully has an ordnance survey map on the wall. We didn't need to use the optional Under 5's bathroom, but it seems like an excellent idea. The owners were very friendly and helpful. It's a family owned site and I think we met the whole family while we were there! We had a problem with our awning but the owner and his son helped us get it sorted quickly. Both pairs of wardens were brilliant. The site is very well situated - there's so much to do in Torbay and it's so easy to reach from the campsite. There are regular buses from the main road which meant we didn't have to move the camper all the time. The pubs in the village did good food and the village shop and butcher was very well stocked. All in all a lovely holiday - we'll definately be back again and will recommend it to our friends. Can't wait to go back again.

Pitch so small, cosy with neighbouring tent. The owner was very rude when I told him I thought the pitch allocated to us was very tight and said that he had extended the pitch sizes twice already, god knows what they were like prior to this. We had an awning with us which he didnt like even though when I booked the site, I advised him of what our campervan and awning were so surely the pitch allocated should have been big enough to fit small vw campervan and awning. Camping is suppose to be laid back, not on this site the owner never acknowledged me after our discussions about the pitch size. He also said he didnt want us to use the groundsheet even though it is breathable. Wouldnt go back!!!

our stay at galmton was one of the best had in a long time on arrival that view you get ror the first time is awesome .from the outset we were taken care of the wardens only to glad to be of any assistance thanks peter and mike it really did make up for the stressful trip, it was nice and we felt right at ease. our pitch was on aslope but not an issue after some adjustment to the awning. we had afantastic view of the river dart in my view one of the best although everyone gets agood view. being acaretaker for a school noisey children is always a prblem whilst away ,but i can honestly say there was no disruption to the peace and quiet. if youve never been to this site before, go for it you will not be dissapointed its a gem. we will be certain for a return trip

on arrival we were directed to our pitch which was on a slight slope; but not an issue.the views are fantastic and our first night was peaceful. however the next day a four families pitched up by us. one of the campers had a young child who did nothing but play up; and was allowed to get away with it. on the night he would not go to bed and at 2,30 am i could hear a loud dvd being played. i reported this to the warden; of which he replied "well it is august" and they are return visitors.he said he would have a word; but there was no change in his behaviour. we decided to leave a day early;as this was not my idea of a peaceful holiday. the campsite isfine ; but this particular family spoilt our stay.

Amazing camp site the views are to die for and the toilet block was large and immaculate. Only slight downside was that our tent had a slight slope so if this is a problem for you specify a flat site as there are some. Would heartily recommend this to anyone and look forward to going back!

We had a wunderful stay at Galmpton touring park. The views over the river Dart were magnificent and the campsite was in very nice condition, with a spotless clean facility block. It was checked several times a day. The pitches were fine and well kept. The area has a lot to offer and the friendly staff at the campsite is very helpful to give you good tips!!!!! Our children came over (18, 20 and the boyfriend 23) for the last week, and even they had a wonderful time at the site. The two SUPERWARDENS kept them busy at some moments. There are nice beaches nearby, where we spent several nice evenings (with irn bru and wodka, unknown in Holland). The price for pitch, food and drinks and attractions were very good.We realy fell in love with Devon and clotted cream!! Chris, Pam, Guy and certainly the two very friendly and nice SUPERWARDENS MIKE and PETER, you made it a really great holiday for us and we really hope to see you again.THANK YOU!!!!! We stayed for tree weeks at this site, and it was realy wonderfull and al was in a neat and good condition. When we arrived we where shown to our pitch by a very friendly warden. They where very helpfull. The site had great looks over the river Dart. Facility block was spotless clean and several times a day checked. The last week of our stay the childern came over from Holland to keep us company, and they did not mis a swimmingpool or a bar, we had the friendly wardens Mike and Peter to keep us busy. At every moment of the day they would give us very good tips to spend our day. At the reception/shop help and information was provided and it is a great site to visit. Thanks to Pam,Chris,Guy. Special thanks to PETER and MIKE. Jan, Miriam, Maik, Zoe and Michael.

My husband and I have just spent a week at Galmpton Touring Park and we had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday. The site is spotlessly clean as is the shower block with lovely views over the River Dart. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and if we ever decide to camp down in the west country again, we wouldn't hestitate to come back to Galmpton. Thank you. Val and Martin

well what can we say; if you like military camping then this is the site for you! when we first booked we were told we would have a lovely view of the river and the pitch would be near the shower block etc. well yes when we arrived we were shown to our pitch and no it did not have a very good view of the river, yes it was near the shower block and near noisy children running up and down the pathway. we also were told where to position our caravan for a decent view. so like good campers we are we did as we were told, due to my husband being disabled and we had a friend staying with us we needed the cars to be close by, but rules are rules and we had to beg the owner to let them stay near the caravan otherwise you have to put your second vehicle in the car park. on the Friday night we came back from a lovely day out to find it was spoilt by the wardens putting another camper to near our caravan in fact you could say they were nearly in our awning.when we told the warden they said they would get in touch with the owner (Guy), he came down and said in a very patronizing manner sorry but it is in the right place and the other warden has put you to far over, we did state that we felt we should be about 20ft away from the other campers by camping laws he disagreed and said it was 9ft, he did nothing to make it anymore comfortable. when you arrive you will find lots of rules and regulation signs shoved down your throats around the campsite as I suppose the owners feel that campers are not sensible (e.g there is no footpath to the creek from the campsite please see Chris, Pam or Guy Collins for directions, if you trespass onto neighbouring fields you will be prosecuted. don't do this and don't do that. We felt as we were in Hitlers campsite back in the 1940's, due to the lack of kindness and respect and Guy's patronizing manner we will definitely not go back there again. if you do go there then be very careful you don't step out of line or break any of the rules. Mr and Mrs Vears oh P.S due to my husbands disability they forgot to tell us that you have to use bricks and blocks for your caravan legs to stand on as the site is on a sloping hill; we found it vary difficult to do and hard work. have a good holiday at military Galmpton touring park!!!!!!!

We first stayed at this campsite in July 2003 for a week and had a great time, so great that we decide to go back the following year. How ever the second was not so good. This time we went for 2 weeks and the first week was fine but the second week so not so good and spoilt our holiday so much that we will not be returning here. At the start of our second we some new arrivals pitch up to us in the late evening which was fine not every one can arrive early, however as they had arrived late they where still setting up at around 8pm which was making some but not a lot of noise, this did not bother us but it did seem to bother the warden. It has been mentioned by a previous reviewer that the warden seems to be selective as to who he asks to be quite or not. The warden asked this family to be quite which we thought nothing of and neither did the family at the time. How ever it so transpired that this family seemed to think it was us that had complained to the warden that they where noisy. As a result they we not very friendly towards us. To make matters worse they where there with about 2 or 3 other families and seemed to not appreciate having just a couple next to them and told there friends this which. Also the campsite rules say the are to be no ball games played at pitches, but this family had a swing ball next to out tent so close that in very often hit our tent. When we did complain about this the warden was not interested and said that although he could see the swing ball every time he walked by they where not using it so he could do nothing. The final straw came when one day they where playing swing ball the fell against our wind break breaking the poles. This seemed amuse the children how said that it was only something worth about 10p. While I can appreciate that this is not really the fault of the campsite I do believe that better and more sensitive management of the site by the staff would have prevented this. I think that to be honest we where only a couple and the staff did not want to upset a family which probably was bringing them more money. This was so but that we actually left 2 days early.

We are a couple in our 20's. We looked at several camping options in the Brixham area for a week's holiday. We used the internet as our resource just as you are now. Galmpton touring park looked like just our sort of place and the description of the park and facilities on their website were very attractive. Here are the main features of the site that they miss out of their marketing: Camping area is situated on a sloping hillside so you wake up in the morning, your bed having moved in the night. Tourers will need some big blocks under the wheels. Toilet/Shower block is on top of a hill within the site which has two steep slopes or a set of steps leading to it. They DO NOT freeze your ice blocks. They do however offer a service where you borrow blocks for £1 refundable deposite and 30p refreeze charge PER BLOCK. No thankyou. The site stresses that it is a quiet family site which chooses not to have a clubhouse or pool for this reason. Sounds nice??, don't be fooled, it's as noisy as any other site...only at this one they choose to police their anti-noise rules inconsistantly, choosing only to ask the people they feel they would least offend (young couples etc.) to turn down their barely audible wind-up radio at 4pm. The site encourages you to use local shops for your food and the local pubs for your evening out, which is a nice idea. But (strangely) close the gate on you at 11:15 pm so you can't drive to your tent/tourer. Only 15mins after last orders! One thing I have to mention is the showers..HOTTTT!!!, children were crying and climbing back out of ths showers as their parents were unable to control the temperature of the single push button on the wall. oh, and there is only one soap dispenser and hand dryer in the whole block which has approx 10 wash basins. Don't get me wrong, this site has some beautiful views of the River Dart and is in a good location if you don't mind driving (well, queing). The staff are reasonably polite and friendly. They just need to focus there efforts on the more important things about making people's holidays great.

What a fab campsite! Great views of the River Dart, quiet at night and first-rate facilities ... probably the cleanest loo/shower block we've come across. The 2 kids play-areas kept our 5 and 6-yr-old boys entertained without being too near other campers and so having us worry about noise etc. No refreshment facilities on-site, but there is a pub in walking distance and a Sainsbury about 5-mins drive away. A couple of nice walks locally and very handy for trips to Dartmouth, Blackpool Sands (well, shingle actually!) and Torbay. Only minor point of note is that the "bottom" field with the best views has sloping pitches. We'll certainly be back.

Just spent a long Bank-holiday weekend with my family at Galmpton Touring Park weather wasn’t brilliant but we thoroughly enjoyed it. The views are stunning over the river Dart and the park is immaculately kept. Camping pitches slope slightly but the view is worth it. Shower block is basic but spotlessly clean and the owner and staff are all very friendly and helpful. Would recommend to anybody and we will be visiting again.
