After a very disappointing stay at the Blossoms Hotel in York its quite refreshing to read that it wasnt just us that had a terrible time. Regretably i wish we'd read all these reviews first! This is a beautiful Georgian building what a shame it felt like we were in Fawlty Towers. We too were asked to pay in full on arrival,a mistake i will never make again. We later asked why this was the case, to be informed that it is their policy in case people leave without payment. to be honest i dont blame anyone that would do this. We stayed in one of the rooms that was separate to the main building as it had been recommended by the owner. he told us they were popular as they are private and quiet. private maybe but not quiet when you are staying next door to the live-in manager who showed no consideration late at night. The property is run by 2 young managers, the owner is rarely on site and even when we requested to see him we were denied this. After arriving home we did receive a lengthy sarcastic letter from the manager who declared that our requests were not worthy of the owners attention, nor was a part refund an option. Asside of this the hotel is basic and the room was poor. The bed was uncomfortable as the mattress was too soft, the carpet was dirty, i had to wipe the jug kettle before i used it and the bathroom was unacceptable. there was a strong smell of urine which we isolated to a spillage on the bathroom floor and on the toilet as well as remnants of faeces too. one manager came to clean the toilet on request but didnt do so satisfactorily so we did it ourselves. my other mistake is that i did not photograph the evidence as the hotel have since denied all knowledge of the faeces. the next day we asked to see or speak to the owner about our concerns after further enduring a very poor standard breakfast. the full english looked and tasted like it had been reheated and the scrambled egg and salmon was merely a mound of overcooked egg on soggy, cheap thin white bread. To top it off we were disturbed late at night by the manager himself and his drunken girlfriend who, unbeknown to us was living in the room nextdoor. We never did get to see the owner. i am not convinced our disappointment was ever passed onto him, and even if it was he showed no interst in us once payment had been made. I can only stress to anyone looking to stay here that you will simply be wasting your money. spend a little more and stay a bit nearer to the centre of York and it will be well worth it in the long run. They do not deserve genuine custom returning or otherwise.

Very bad experience. I only stayed there for 1 night, and it left very bad memory even up to now. I wouldn't recommend this hostel. The toilet was leaky, the staff was unfriendly, the carpet was dirty etc etc....a definite no no...

Thank you to Heather Bailey for taking the time to fill out a review of the Blossoms. We do all that we can to ensure that our guests get a good nights sleep & enjoy a pleasant stay with us. As explained to guests at the time of booking, this includes taking a 'good behaviour bond' from large groups checking in if we feel that this will help to ensure that other guests are not disturbed at night. We are sorry if this policy causes offence, but it is in place for a good reason! Although we have only been running the Blossoms for 2 years, we are already delighted by the amount of repeat custom & personal recomendations that we receive. Guests comment specifically on the friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, clean rooms & great location. We look forward to welcoming you to our wonderful city!!

Very disappointing - on arrival we were asked to pay in full and then asked for a credit card pre-authorisation for £200 bond. We were basically threatened that if we caused a disturbance this money would be debited from the account. We were not told what consituted a disturbance. We felt as though we were being "picked on" for being in a single sexed group.
