You look at these places in the internet and it is with some trepidation that you make your booking - you've done all the research you can but you are just never certain until you arrive at your chosen destination. In this instance we drove from the North West on a rainy Friday afternoon to what we hoped was a rather nice hotel. You turn off the main road and ahead is the long tree lined sweeping driveway to the hotel and as you come around he final bend you are greeted with exactly what is shown on this web site. An imposing building with plenty of parking, checking in was easy and we were offered a complimentary drink whilst they took our details. We had chosen a room in the main house overlooking the lake and as we left the reception area we passed the lounge where there was a roaring open fire burning in the huge grate, a selection of leather chairs and settees looked very inviting. Our room was at the top of the stairs and we were not disappointed with the view. The room was large and the bed massive, the en-suite facilities were excellent and everything was very clean. The room came with tea and coffee making facilities and there was a tv as well as wireless internet access. Having unpacked we strolled down to the bar from where there were excellent views of the lake, in the sitting room adjoining the bar was another roaring fire - OK so this was a gas one but it fooled us for a bit and was still a welcome sight. That evening we were eating in the restaurant which is famous for its menu - many of the people eating were not residents and I think that this is always a good sign. The food and service was excellent. The next morning we took advantage of the pool and spa - I enjoyed the pool and a sauna while the wife was pampered at the spa. My only obsevation was that the changing rooms were looking a bit tired but it wasn't as if this would spoil our visit. All in all a really great hotel where the food, service and staff are all very good. A great place to base yourself if you really want some pampering, good food and drink!
