We had three wonderful meals here during a recent four day break in Jersey. Scallops for a light lunch on our first day, followed by rack of lamb for dinner that same evening! Both meals were perfectly cooked by Sarah and served by attentive staff. We returned for lunch on our last day - my husband had prawns (which were more like small lobsters) and I had the Blacked Headed Sea Bream. On this occasion, we also had dessert - my husband had the lightest raspberry sponge and I had a delicious cherry and almond tart, followed by coffee and home-made chocolate-dipped candied orange. All in all, a delightful restaurant with excellent staff and marvellous food! We will certainly be going back to Jersey, if only to eat here again.

This is definately one to NOT visit! I reserved a table for 27th Dec for two very special friends visiting from the UK. I live on the Island and have for 20 years. When I booked the gentleman was very friendly, helpful and even took a meal request when I discussed the menu with him. At this time of year especially if you want a meal out it is essential to book as eating out in Jersey is a very popular pastime and we have some wonderful restaurants.....(and some not so wonderful inc the restaurant in question here as they clearly do not value their customers) I received a telephone call on Christmas Eve telling me they were canceling my reservation....I was astounded and initially concerned for the lady who phoned me assuming some catastrophic event had befallen them..a fire perhaps or staff sickness....Not the case....she calmly told me they had decided to close for the day instead because her staff were a bit tired!! I was less than impressed. She couldn't understand why and was uninterested when I told her by guests had flown over from the UK for this. What makes the whole thing even more intriguing is that almost every day during the festive period they were advertising in our local newspaper as being 'open throughout Christmas and New Year.... I couldn't help wondering if the reason they closed was more to do with ours being the only reservation that day and if that was the case it would tie in with their heavy advertising campaign... Empty tables in restaurants mean one thing usually...I leave you to draw your own conclusions. I certainly won't be going back. If you find yourself in the area though and want a good alternative try Cafe Poste or Sumas. Both offer great service, great food and when you reserve a table with them they welcome you with the same friendly smile and high standards and great food..tired or not!!!!! On the 27th we ended up eating at a pub called La Hocq just a little further along the coast road. We had a warm welcome, sat and perused the excellent menu by a open fire and had a superb meal in their newly renovated restaurant. I explained what the Village Bistro had done and they made every effort to fit us in despite being very busy- this is a much better example of Jersey Hospitality generally. So please don't let the Village Bistro story put you off visiting the Island. We have plenty of excellent places to eat here. They may not have a Michelin Star but then does that matter? I think the Star goes to the owners heads sometimes they forget that without the customers they wouldn't have been awarded the recognition in the first place! Shame on you Village Bistro...you won't hang on to your Michelin Star or your restaurant for long if this is how you treat your guests....the Island is too small.

Unfortunately was not able to try the Village Bistro as was told they were "fully booked". I walked by the Bistro several times between 1830 and 2000 and at no point did I see evidence of this; it couldn't possibly be to do with the fact I was a lone diner dressed in (smart) jeans?

What a superb dining experience; from the excellent service, fantastic food and sublime deserts. You must try the scollops when you visit as they were so fresh and cooked to perfection. For those of you who would rather eat meat the fillet steak was also cooked to perfection and served with real home made chips (just like your Mum makes; I can say that honestly as she was there and loved them). We dined outside on the patio, which has a number of heaters; so if there is a chill it does not spoil your evening. I would highly recommend this restaurant and plan to eat there again when we return to Jersey.

We went to Jesrey for the first time in 24 years. Whilst staying in Saint helier we asked our hotel receptionist to recommend a restuarant to celebrate aour wedding anniversary. She recommended the Village Bistro in Gorey. This small restaurant lived upto and surpassed evey epectation. the proprietor Sean was a perfect host along with his waitress. the service was efficient without being obtrusive. Wines recommended throughout the meal accompanied the food perfectly. the food was prepared by sean's wife who produced food of a very high quality. The baby clams were a delicious starter and the rack of lamb in a raspberry sauce was excellent. we returned for lunch on the Sunday and eat from the set meal menu. this was also of an excellent standard. We look forward to going back in the future.
