The surroundings and ambiance of this place are hard to beat! The most romantic, relaxing interior I have been in for a long time. We opted for the set menu, main course and dessert which seemed good value. The wine (we chose the South African chenin blanc) was not that great for £14. We asked for water, and the waiter got a bit confused, first asking if we wanted still or sparkling, to which we answered still. Then 10 minutes later, we reminded him about the water, and he asked if we wanted still or tap water and so we ended up paying £3 for a bottle of mineral water when we really just wanted a jug of tap water. The food was very nice, if anything the desserts were a little disappointing. The espresso creme brulee I ordered was not set lke a creme brulee should be but runny, and served in a tiny espresso cup. The warm pear and chocolate frangipane would have been nicer served warm, so the menu description obviously only meant the pears were to be warm. I missed being offered bread while we were waiting for our starters and a little thing like that would have made the experience more perfect. The service could have been better considering we were the only table in as it was 6pm. We had booked that early for a pre-theatre meal, and I asked upon booking for their recommendation as to time, so I expected them to be a bit more aware of us needing to leave at a certain time. As it was, we left some of our wine, and had to ask for the bill, as we had only just finished our desserts by 7.20 and had to be at the theatre for 7.30!

Chandlers is my all time absolute favourite eating place - and i like to eat out. It is the one place i have been to on a regular basis and find the standards consistently high, the menus varied and mouthwatering, the service is second to none, the food is fantastic and the surroundings are relaxing and cosmopolitan. The fresh fish menu is inspired and the selected wines are excellent and always served at the perfect temperature. Thank you thank you thank you and please bring back the chocolate orange bread and butter pudding mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
