We went to this restaurant as part of a group of 10 to celebrate our friend's birthday. The menu was incredibly limited (e.g. popadoms and garlic bread named as 2 of the 5 starters) and the food badly cooked. One person had to send back popadoms that weren't cooked properly (I ask you...) and another sent back a piece of trout that was overcooked to the point of being burnt & chewy and undercooked, hard potatoes. The waiter didn't seemed to care and was incredibly surly so we decided we didn't want to pay a service charge. There then ensued a very unpleasant argument with the restaurant owner refusing to accept this. All I can say in conclusion is don't touch this place with a barge pole...

As you will see all the above negative reviews for tghis Bistro were written in 2007! Since then the Bistro on the Beach has changed hands under the new owner, Mario. Everything about this well known and popular Bistro has improved dramatically! The staff are friendly and attentive. The foor is excellent, fresh, well cooked and presented. It's probably best to go in the evening for dinner when there's an enjoyable buzz about the place. During the days, especially in the summer tourist season, family's will merely use this as the cafe. I can think of nothing worse then trying to enjoy my lunch with a hoard of noisy, sand ridden, kids maurading around the place! So, if you take kids make sure they're house-trained! Your fault not the Bistro's!

Absolutely disgusting service!! Don't go if you have children as you will be made to feel extremely unwelcome. After spending in excess of £60 for lunch the owner came over to evetually collect our plates and said - "Please could you try and make sure your children aren't so messy, I know it's difficult to keep children under control but could you please try a bit harder. It costs a lot of money to get the menus printed and could you please not let the children touch them". Now the menu he is referring to is printed out from what looked like my home PC and with errors on it! and our children had not damaged it in any way. My 16mth old daughter had spilt a few crumbs and a bit of water on the plastic table, not exactly vandalism!! I resent being made to feel like a bad parent in what is nothing more than a plastic and lino clad beach cafe. I take my children to many upper class restaurants and have never had any problem with their behaviour. Oh I forgot to mention that the cafe was empty apart from us...

My Wife and I chose the Bistro on the Beach for our anniversary dinner and we weren't disappointed. the service was first class and the food was delicious! we both had the sea-bass, perfectly cooked and seasoned with a stunningly good saffron cream! This is not a stuffy "wannabe" restaurant, its a nice relaxed dinning room with a great atmosphere. we will definitely be visiting again next time we're in town!!!

My wife and I have eaten at this establishment on numerous occasions, a lovely setting and great, warm, friendly staff. Having been told over the phone that a new chef was in residence we booked a table to satisfy our curiosity. We were served with wine on the sea front seats and then took our table inside as the temperature dropped. The waiting staff were attentive, friendly and made us feel extremely welcome. Follwing our starters I ordered a prawn pasta dish whilst my wife ordered the steak, what was served can only be described as second rate garbage (people dining next to us also left most of theirs). The food resembled a 1980's school dinner...dry, over cooked (probably reheated) and tasteless. The local pubs serve better food and at half the price! Whilst the current so called chef is in residence we shall not be eating there again. The waiting staff were superb, it is such a shame that they have to serve second rate school dinners, do yourselves a favour and find a restaurant where you can proudly serve the dishes on offer.
