I was staying in room 229 Executive Suite and really struggled to sleep. I fancy myself to be a bit receptive to paranormal activity, and have experience sensing spirits. As I lay in bed shapes seemed to mass in the room, all around the bed. A male figure stood next to my bed, and I actually touched him! If felt very strange. There were men, women and children. I could hear them talking, laughing etc. This has been the weirdest sensation of my life. They were dressed in what seemed to be Victorian style (though I am no historian). If you are interested in these things, I would recommend staying in this room. I would love to know if anybody experiences anything similar to this.

Let's start with the positive, the staff are great, friendly and helpful but the management of this hotel is seriously lacking. We arrived and were well greeted, however, there is no lift and no porterage offered, so my husband with back problems had to pull our suitcase up the stairs. The corridors have no windows and reek of tobacco. Our room was no smoking but also stank of tobacco and helpfully had an ashtray!!A patio door opened onto a roof which was full of fag ends. The bed looked comfortable but had a plastic incontinence mattress!! which meant that the bed was hot and noisy every time you turned over. There were notices asking you to close the bathroom door when you showered so that you didn't set off the fire alarms. No problem. If you get up after 8,30 a.m. the shower is cold. Breakfast. Well if you stay Mon - Fri they do offer fresh fruit but not at the weekend for some reason. Bread is the cheapest sliced available and no other alternative. Hot breakfast is coronary crunching, no alternative. What about the evening meal? Amazingly - the menu is priceless!! You have to ask for the price and it is £16.99!!!! for a main course. I had poached salmon which was so soaked in cream and tarragon that I could not actually taste the salmon. Had to ask for water. Housekeeping. Setting aside the tobacco smell, the tiles in the bathroom were orange with soak scuff which any decent housekeeper could remove with ease. On Thursday night we had coffee. On Friday the chambermaid had washed the mugs but not replaced the coffee so we could not make coffee. Saturday, we returned to discover new towels in the bathroom but the old towels were dumped on the bedroom floor. Basically, this place tries to be good but the management pays no attention to important detail. We have stayed at Premier Inns and found them cheaper and better in terms of quality and price. The best price is the bar, but this means that by 10.00 p.m. it does get raucous. Would I recommend this hotel? Well, there were football supporters who wanted a cheap place they could play poker in the evening, have a cheap drink, round of golf before going to the match in the afternoon and they seemed happy. If like us you wanted a decent healthy hotel where you could get a healthy breakfast, decent night's sleep and a good evening meal, honestly priced - don't bother. However if you do stay at this hotel I can recommend the Blacksmith's Table in Washington Village. Superb food, worth every penny,( not much different from the Golf Hotel)great atmosphere - but you should bokk ahead of going.

Good Points: Good overall service from staff, pleasent and attentive. Bad Points: There were quite a few areas of refurb / refresh required for decor, bath trim, walls etc required that made some areas look a bit shabby.

If you are about to book, don't. If you have booked, change it. This was by far the worst experience of my life. Receptionist on arrival was rude and asked if we were thick when we had to come back three times because we could not find our room. There was no way of knowing that the sign for rooms 100 + led to room 16. rudeness seemed to be the order of the day. The bar staff were abrupt and unhelpfull with bar prices to match central London. The restaurant manager was quite possible the rudest man on the planet. The service was slow, the food was cold and of very poor quality. The facilities are not as advertised, with the sauna not working (been like that for some time according to the staff)the jaccuzi is just about large enough for two people and the swimming pool just larger than a household bath. The golf course is uninteresting and is a typical example of someone having a piece of land and thinking they could make money by planting a golf course on it. no real thought to design. Over the twenty plus years I have been on golf outings, this was by far the worst experience I have ever had.

We were visiting the area for a family surprise party and were given your details. The check in was fine, but no help with luggage, the hotel is on 2 floor although bedrooms are on 4 floors. Our room was on the last floor, which was quite a trek from reception, with 5 steps up along corridoors with another 5 steps down, through upteen fire doors - up a flight of stairs - then along further corridoors and steps and fire doors. When we eventually got to our room we were exhausted!! The room ok, although only small amounts of tea & coffee bags for making drinks. Unable to open the window more than an half and inch to get in some air. One light not working in bathroom, pop up plug not working well. Switches for bedside lamps difficult to locate. There a note in the room to say that the dining room was not available that weekend, and only room service with a limited menu available. This did not affect us, but could have done, I would not have been happy not to be informed of this in advance. Getting out of the car park not easy as the barrie r does not automatically lift up. We were advised by a taxi also leaving that we needed to ley in a code to get out! Pity we not advised at reception. Breakfast ok, but an extra charge was made on top of the already expensive room at the check out. Rather frosty receptionist this time. Also needed three trips to the car to load up, my husband was in a lot of pain - we have found out this morning that he has cracked a rib lifting the cases out of the boot of the car (not this hotel I might add - but the night before) Off we went thinking thank goodness that is over, but couldnt get out of the carpark with the code we had used the day before. We had to reverse all the way back to the hotel to be advised by someone from the golf club of a new number - apparently the code is changed every day!! Reception were supposed to advise us. What a pity, this hotel seems to cater for the golfing set and Christmas parties without any cares for their staying guests. What a change from the night before, where we stayed in a Premier Lodge with a pub attached near Warrington. They were very helpful and friendly and was half of the cost of the George Washington, sorry we wont be staying again!
