When will the zoo finally stop building - last went 2 years ago and there are still whole sections cordoned off. The new "gorilla kingdom" seems to have been built for just one inmate..rather inadequate for the 1000 people cramming and straining to see him. Various things have moved (penguins for instance) yet the signs remain meaning quite a few of the exhibits are not where they say they are and the whole place looks really rather tired. Very disappointing

I was brought up in South Africa – where I developed a love of and certain knowledge about wild animals. I now live and teach Reception children at a British school in Portugal. My sons live in the UK and I so looked forward to taking my 21-month-old grandchild to the famous London Zoo during the summer holidays. I was extremely disappointed. It was expensive for what it presently has on offer. (With a promise of paying only 50% for the next visit if I return within a year! Who knows where I’ll be in a year’s time?! Why were we not charged half the price?) It is a building site with cordoned off areas that advertise improvements to open in 2007! Surely there could be recommended, suggested routes that help avoid passing the areas under construction? Visitors should be more informed and directed. I had primed my grandson and taught him songs etc about animals. We walked around in square circles and apart from the giraffes that he adored and a quick visit to the children’s area, which we chanced on much later when he was already tired and fed up, it proved a most disappointing experience. I never thought that the Lisbon zoo could have more to offer than the famous London Zoo but at present it certainly does. I hope that my observations might help with organisation so that future visitors do not experience the frustrations I had. Yours sincerely Barbara Garcez

A group of adults and children went to London Zoo on Saturday and after paying £71 for us all to get in, we were so disappointed!! Ok, it was a hot day so lots of the animals were not out, preferring to sit in the shade. But it seemed that quite a lot of the enclosures were empty! And what has happened to the elephants? Where were they? No pandas or polar bears either. One brown bear was JUST visable. We tried to enjoy the day anyway but disappoint was showing more and more. I don't think I would recommend this as a great day out anymore!
