County Review by S Clark on August 22nd, 2008Quiet, unspoilt and virtually deserted, East Yorkshire is full of small atractive untouched hamlets especially in the Wolds around Driffield. Beverley is a wonderful medieval town with an excellent range of shops and a mighty minster. The county is one of the main arable areas of England with mile upon mile of wheat and cornfield. On the coast Bempton and Flamborough offer one of the widest ranges of sea birds on the British shoreline.

A pleasant place to visit at any time of year. Went to the races last year, and again this year.
Stayed at the Beverley Arms. One of the best hotels around. The White Horse Inn was very quaint, but had a warm welcome. I cannot wait to come again.

Great racecourse. Spectacular Minster. Some of the best pubs in Yorkshire, especially the White Horse. Recommend a visit to anyone.

Beverley is a place where I keep coming back to, ever since I visited the racecourse in 1995. Its Minster dominates the area, and its history. One of my favourite haunts is the White Horse Inn, with its gas lighting and olde world atmosphere. The beer's cheap too. You won't catch me sitting on a beach all day. I might even retire here.

Brid is a very friendly place to go to, it is ideal for the older person who cannot.walk very well, the town is mostly flat and disable buggy friendly, you can even hire disabled scooters, all the pavements have lowered curbs at strategic places, a lot of the accomodation are changing to disable friendly, I have been to the Langdon Hotel and I could not fault it, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the Yorkies Bar is first class, if I could get out and about Brid would be my FIRST Choice of venue for a holiday

Have not been here for some time as was not happy with the food, and while visiting friends in the area i popped in for a drink. There are new owners who took over last week and the meals are a lot better now. Speaking to the new owner Think his name was Stu, He has big plans to turn the place around. New menus, new chef, and mid week specials. I was well happy with what i've seen so far. Will go back in a month or so and see if anything has changed.

We recently decided to try out family camping. We chose our campsites over a period of two weeks and were travelling between Forres, Moray and Ilfracombe.
With our newly purchased equipment and enthusiasm for our new adventures ahead, we arrived at Fangfoss Caravan Park, near York, somewhat bewildered.
The campsite was truly below standard, in fact to compare it to a cess pit would be an insult to a cess pit. There were numerous dead flies, wasps, moths etc to be found in the sink, along with newly cut human and animal hair, mud and dog excrement were also present in the kitchen area washing facilities. The ironing board cover was burnt, smelt and was ripped. The toilet and shower facilities were appalling. The curtains were mouldy, the stench from the toilets was nothing short of vile.
The pitch where we set up was apparently used for dog exercise and fouling, although we were not informed of this by the owner of the campsite or the dog owners nearby who were pitched in their caravans. The numerous flies hovering should have been a give away but being our first time camping we did expect there to be some wildlife.
After setting up our tent with all our equipment for the three days we were booked in, we sat quite dismayed wondering if this was what we had ahead of us for the next fortnight. Feeling rather down and dejected, we decided to visit the local town of Pocklington for our tea and to check out the local area. On our way we passed several sign posts for nearby campsites. On the turning to Pocklington we decided to drive into one of the other campsites, South Lea Caravan Park. It was as if I had driven into heaven. The difference between the two sites was immediately noticeable. We asked the owner if she had any vacancies, which she did, and also asked to see the facilities, which were clean and fresh smelling. The grass areas were immaculate and obviously well maintained, friendly people that communicated with you, obviously happy because they too were in heaven. What a difference between the two campsites.
It took us an hour and a half to pack up our equipment and set up some ten to fifteen minutes drive away, at South Lea Caravan Park, where we spent an enjoyable three days and nights.
This was the camping experience we were expecting, not a visit to a cess pit whereby we were all likely to go down with Typhoid.
I would strongly recommend that Fangfoss is taken off your recommendations list. A visit to the site would show all of the above.
I would highly recommend a visit to South Lea Caravan Park to anybody. It is five star camping at a great price. Good, clean facilities, well maintained grounds, secure entry via pass card, large childrens play area, with substantial play equipment, all pitches with electrical hook up.

As a user of the Humber bridge from Lincolnshire for a number of years,I missed a very interesting and pleasant area on the fore shore at Hessle starting at the Country Park Inn, and covering a vast area of land, I was very impressed with the Inn and the the park,it is well used by walkers and families from hull and is well worth a look.

A very charming city. One is never short of things to do.The many museums on offer are very interesting and informative. One could spend hours looking around them all. I would not fail to recommend to anyone that they visit your welcoming city.

You include the Swan PH in North Ferriby but as shown on the address it is in Swanland
Swanland is now as big, if not a bigger village that North Ferriby and should be listed as one of your East Riding Villages.
Famous for its pond, which as a boy I fell into or was pushed into, skated on in hard winters and even built a raft in the scouts.
People say it was named after King Sweyn a Danish Invader.

I have only visited North Ferriby once and thought it was an extremely adorable little village. I consumed a meal and drink at the Duke of Cumberland and was made to feel very welcome by all the staff. The people of North Ferriby seem to be extremely accommodating on the whole. The small shops, pharmacy, etc. have very pleasant staff. The view of the Humber Bridge in the evening is just awe inspiring and worth a glimpse by anyone. I hope to visit North Ferriby again someday.

I really like Withernsea. It is a traditional seaside town on the beautiful east coast in Yorkshire. Some money has been invested there but I do feel it could do with a little more TLC as the town centre has that 'run down' feel to it.
There is a beautiful beach, super promenade and some lovely shops and an indoor market. The people there are very friendly. I love the place.

Withernsea has a good beach when the tide receedes. Good for kit flying and kite surfing. There are pools which are shallow for children to swim withou getting out of their depth.
There is still local fisherman who go out for crab and lobsters. The beach extends well beyond the promenade. Be sure to return to the promenade when walking where there are the 50 foot high cliffs or you will be cut off when the tide comes in.
