Review of Port Erin by Giancarlo Savaris on July 4th, 2008
I spent 3 months in Port Erin in 1971 on a working holiday during summer. I was only 17 then. The place has moved on, no doubt, although I still recognise it from the pictures I found on this and other sites. The promenade with its imposing and seemingly out place Victorian buildings is still there; that is is the first thing that struck me arriving in the double-decker bus from the airport (was it near Castletown?). The treeless promontory and its tower too are still as I remember. I wonder if the people have changed. I knew the whole town, or so I thought. The other thing I remember are the huge crabs which could be picked up from the beach at high tide. I have very fond memories of Port Erin and would like to return one day before I am too old.
