North Wales Reports

County Review by justin harrison on January 11th, 2011
In a nutshell north wales is about 30years adrift in comparison to other areas especially the coastal areas ,the denbigshire coastal area is a joke, nothing is done to encougage visitors, the sea front is rundown and a disgrace , mind you i point the finger to the useless bent council officials who does nowt ,businesses on the sea front SHOULD BE FINED, if they dont keep their buildings clean and up to date, its seems that everything about the sea front areas are designed to discourage visitors with the ridiculous amount of double yellow lines and traffic wardens ,(where the hell do they expect vistors to park? )caravan parks seem to be priority which is a shame because rhyl has so much potiential but the council jackasses cant see the wood for the trees, not to mention the broadsband speed which is basically nil due to the durassic exchange and excuses from those in the know but who dont realise they dont know what they thought they knew, the real question is ( WHO THE HELL IS RESPONSIBLE ) ask any ordinary folk and they will tell you they detest these big super markets and the bullshit they try to peddle to the masses, lovely coastal areas without a FAIR? what a waste in my opinion north wales is neglected ,mind you theres a bunch a self made jackasses who calls themselves the welsh assembly who talk alot and does nothing ,in my conclusion i would say north wales is more interested in ripping off the unfortunate motorist who happened to visit these areas rather than look at the overall picture , hava a good day

County Review by cathy on April 4th, 2006
we have been holidaying in and around Caernarfon for the last 30yrs. we love the languge the culture in fact everything in the most peaceful surrroundings, Snowdonia.there is not many roads left to explore now.Yet we always find new places to visit and always feel welcome and so at home. The scenery is breathtaking and never the same twice. There is something for everyone whether you are a child or adult wanting fun or peace. Caernarfon is pretty central for getting to all towns (Portmadoc etc) 6miles out is the aiport and Raf museum and a lovely beach where the sea is clear and you can watch dolphins play also from the airport you can take pleasure trips to see snowdonia from the air. Icould go on for ever but viit and see for yourself that there is nowhere on earth that is as spectacular and as welcoming.Oh and its beauty is still there in the heaveist of downpours

Abergele, North Wales

Review of Abergele by Steve on May 31st, 2010
Maybe its just me that sees this but i live in Abergele but am not from there. I avidily read all I can about Abergele and its history when i get chance and Abergele is always described as an old market town going back hundreds of years. I am from the NW of England and remember well the old market and the only reason my mum and dad visited Abergele. Is the lighting flashing yet! So why in Gods name did some moron allow Tesco to close Abergele? Why dont you allocate some land again and open another Market. You cannot tell me the people of Abergele where for letting Tescos replace the old market! The field inside the Gate house at the bottom of Lon Dirion where they camp in the summer would be perfect. Who owns that land? I am sure it could be organized and utilized all year round therefore paying the owner a tidy rent for the year and not just a few weeks in Summer. Who cares whether you fix the traffic lights or get people to occupy the empty shops!! Get the point its a market town without a market. There is a growing trend to move back to market shopping as people are sick of plastic food so come on stop playing Ostriches and smell the coffee on hopefully a new market space.

Beddgelert, North Wales

Review of Beddgelert by ray tarling on January 28th, 2010
what a little gem of a village, must be one of the best in snowdonia, hiking, hill walking, mountains wow its great and lots of nice places to stay..

Review of Beddgelert by Hilary Gunn on August 5th, 2009
we have just returned from a week in Beddgelert and despite the weather we have nothing but praise for the place itself, however the accommodation we stayed in was disappointing to say the least. Bryn y felin cottage was booked through Stay in wales and looked charming in the pictures and in the description. The reality was very different. It was small, dark and dirty. It was advertised as being for 6 people but there was only seating for 5 in the lounge and the carpet was too dirty to sit on, one of us had to sit on a hard kitchen chair every night. The "large" table which "will comfortably seat six" did, if 3 of you sat with bent backs. The bath mats were dirty, there was a big greasy patch on the wall above one of the beds and every room had dusty skirting boards and cobwebs. An experience not to be repeated.

Betws-Yn-Rhos, North Wales

Review of Betws-Yn-Rhos by Mike Charles. on November 18th, 2009
I have used the Wheatsheaf for eating and as a base for 45 years. It is now back to its best. The rooms are rightly priced, clean and comfortable with cooked breakfast or an early continental available. In the pub the food is really good both at lunchtime and in the evening and pensioners get a special deal sometimes. The wine selection and quality is excellent and the prices reasonable. Real ale is always on in the bar and well kept.

Review of Betws-Yn-Rhos by Mrs Linda Hughes on January 21st, 2008
We had our staff night out at the Wheatcheif Inn in Betws-y-Rhos in December 2007. We didnt really expect the food to be up to much (cause christmas party nights never are) but we were wrong! it was fantastic what a great night! The food was one of the best I have had for ages, tasty ,hot and plenty of it. The staff were so attentive and pleasant and the disco was brill. we will be booking for next year ! A big thank you to Julie and all her staff. xxx

Bodelwyddan, North Wales

Review of Bodelwyddan by caroline on July 10th, 2010
my father was posted to kinmel camp in bodelwyddan in 1959. in 1961 he was de-mobbed. my parents bought a bungalow in the village, but in 1965 my mother died an untimely death at the age of 39. she is buried in st margarets church. 2 years later we moved to the midlands. i,m now glad to be living in wales again. i have some good memories of bodelwyddan as well as painful. but how it,s changed. the thing i least like is that A55 cutting through the heart of the village, very sad. the castle looks splendid, i remember it as lowther college. my brother,s girlfriend went there . she was the vicar,s daughter. i could go on and on.

Review of Bodelwyddan by Vivien Jones on August 5th, 2006
Castle Grounds and location 5***** stunning. Although the internet is misleading. To view the castle you need to pay a reduced entrance fee of £3.00 pp. Entertainment 4**** very good. Food 2** Carvery selection and presentation very poor but Service 4**** very good but restaurant reminded us of a herd of cattle - tables too close together people sitting almost on top of each other. Accommodation (Patio Room) 2** Room was very dusty - thick dust on curtains, valance and wardrobe. Was cleaned on complaint and then felt comfy. Bed 4**** clean and comfy. Bathroom generally shabby - two tiles off skirting - glued on after reporting situation. Swimming Pool & Spa - lacked sparkle 3*** Generally disappointed - expected more - appears to cater for coach parties (3 were staying there at the time) and 65+ age group and not couples seeking a romantic break for two. We were offered a free bottle of wine but declined - all we wanted was a break in line with the internet picture of this Warner Break.

Brynford, North Wales

Review of Brynford by Dawn Pearson on February 24th, 2006
I have not visited Brynford for some years - strange as I only live in Flint. However, we took a walk up there some weeks ago and did not realise what we were missing as the area is - I can only explain it as being like a breath of fresh air - not suprising, living in Flint. I must say the highlight of the journey, as you can imagine walking all them miles, was to be greeted in the first and may be only public house we came to (crooked horn) by the most friendliest staff and people I have had the pleasure of meeting for decades. I believe they have not been running it long. I just hope there are there in 2009 as it will take me that long to get my breath back. They made us so welcome - thanks. ***and I only had an orange juice!! .

Caerwys, North Wales

Review of Caerwys by ANON on September 24th, 2008
Caeswys is the most beautiful place not only in Wales, but anywhere. The people are some of the best I have ever met. I love it there, however, I have been let down by the owners of the Caerwys View holiday home park. They promised to right some things needing attention in my caravan, but,now that I have paid, they have decided not to fulfill their obligations.I hope that potential buyers get all their jobs done and check that they have been done well before any money changes hands!

Llanbedr, North Wales

Review of Llanbedr by caron skilling on August 22nd, 2010
we have been staying at shell island for many years, on and of. Wejust love the area and dont live that far away, but the more we go there the dissapointed we get. The owners are not interested in you at all, I think it is just a means to an end for them. I have never seen showers so dirty in all my born days, the white shower curtain was actually orange and mould colour, hair in the plug hole, mud and water all over the floor and the smell was something else! There are broken glass bottles in the beautiful sand dunes. Cigarette buts every where by the seating area, the very large rubbish bins are not concealed what so ever!Oh and this time we went we didnt have water at certain times of the day! never before has that happened. And as for bank holidays, dont even go there!once you have cued for about 6-8 hours to get on the chances are some one will put their tent as close as possible to yours so much for 20 meters!!!And biggest moan of all BEWARE there are theives operating in the area so watch your things carefully.Other than that its not too bad! OH they dont empty the bins enough either.

Review of Llangollen by Nancy Bronwell on January 30th, 2006
Been there seven times (from U.S.) One of the most charming and beautiful places I have EVER visited and I've traveled widely. I particularly liked the Wine Bar, the Corn Mill (both delicious food) and for shopping, NOTHING beats the unique Welsh Country Crafts Shop at 37 Castle Street. Their upscale merchandise almost destroyed my entire tour budget for lovely things to bring back to my friends and family.

fantastic market

Review of Mold by David Swindle on October 30th, 2007
I stayed in Mold, back in 1980 for 4 months. I will never forget the people there, and how welcome I felt. I stayed at a B&B called Tan-y-Brun. It may not even exist anymore. I remember how it rained the entire month of October, but people were always out and about. I got so sick that fall, and if not for the people who ran the B&B I might have never gotten well. Some day I may return for a visit. David Swindle Carson City Nevada USA.

St George, North Wales

Review of St George by JOHN HUNT on August 28th, 2007
Stopped for lunch 2 years ago & had a lovely meal, new owners had just taken over & place was being remodelled. Very filling & reasonable price. Stopped there at the weekend for lunch - 27/8/07 - meal was 5* but portions were small, food menu (2 pages) was limited (4 main courses) though wine list was extensive (3 pages) & their prices are a bit high.

Review of St George by Johnny C on October 16th, 2006
Little gem of a place in a fairly unpleasant part of Wales (i.e. within spitting distance of Rhyll). It's set back in the hills across the A55. St. George is a lovely little viallage and the Kimnel Arms is a very old pub. Beer is excellent, and it's been thoughtfully decorated, quite bright and modern but not tacky in any way. The food is also excellent, gastropub rather than a pub lunch. It's not too expensive either. Definitely worth a visit if your in the area. If you've put up with the fast-food slop and fizzy watered down lager that gets dished out in the seaside resorts nearby such as Rhyll and Towyn, a trip here is a welcome restorative.

Tremadog, North Wales

Review of Tremadog by MR D DOWNS on May 19th, 2008
I have been a visitor to Tremadog for over47yrs I have seen it grow and change ,and made many good friends there. Time to take my grandson to stay in the Madoc hotel and show him the the site's .Booked in for the night great,or so I thought, what a shock to the system, ill fitting carpets should have been enough of a give away with 2&3 inch rucks, cracked window (dirty cracked window)or the wall paper hanging off "yuk" was my grandsons word, but the last straw was the cockroach on the window sill, time to leave the once great hotel, the one thing about the cockroach was at least it was dead The reason I have wrote this is that there was no pride in the place ,and Wales needs to atract people ,not turn them away by having filthy hotels
