BOOK LANCASHIRE HOTELS

River Lune, Lancashire | Cumbria

The River Lune is located in the counties of Lancashire and Cumbria in England. The river derives its name from the Irish Celtic word for ‘pure’ or ‘health giving’. Flowing from its source at Ravenstondale Common, on the Pennine Hills , the river continues for 44 miles through Southern Cumbria until it meets the Irish Sea at Plover Scar. The town of Lancaster , and thus the county of Lancashire, are both named after the River Lune, which was once the site of the old Port of Lancaster. The river is a Biological Heritage Site and is a popular location with walkers, particularly in the area surrounding Devil’s Bridge.
