Erewash Valley in Derbyshire, England is a picturesque valley winding through the Derbyshire country on the border of Nottinghamshire . Known best for its industrial history, it runs parallel to the Erewash Canal which was used primarily for the transportation of coal during the Industrial Revolution . It also led to the Erewash Valley train line which was also used for transporting coal and now for passenger trains to London . The name itself is believed to have come from 'irre' meaning 'wandering' and 'wisce' meaning 'wet meadow'. It was highlighted primarily by DH Lawrence who mentions it in his 1915 novel 'The Rainbow'.
