BOOK NORTHUMBERLAND HOTELS

Allen Banks, Northumberland

Allen Banks is situated in the North Pennines and has been designated
as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Allen Banks is one of
the largest ancient areas of woodland in Northumberland, England. It
is located in and around the gorge of the River Allen, a tributary of
the River Tyne which cuts through approximately 70 miles of
Northumblerland countryside. Allen Banks is well known for its ancient
ruins such as Peel Tower, a fine example of the string of watchtowers
built to hold beacons in the 16th century; and a beautifully
reconstructed Victorian summerhouse. Allen Banks is also a site of
Special Scientific Interest (SSI) because of its varied and rich flora
and fauna.
