BOOK ISLE OF WIGHT HOTELS

Alum Bay, Isle of Wight

Alum Bay
Situated at the westernmost tip of the Isle of Wight, Alum Bay has long been famous for its many different colours of sand and its proximity to the geological natural wonder that is The Needles . The coloured sands create a spectacular landscape because the cliffs of the coastline at Alum Bay are composed of these multicoloured sands.

The Needles are a collection of rocks jutting out dramatically from the sea like giant teeth.  At the end of these rocks is a Lighthouse, built many years ago to help ships avoid being snared by the rocks.

As a result of these unique natural features, Alum Bay is popular with tourists and geologists alike. A multitude of gifts made from the coloured sands have long been available for visitors to buy in the bay. There is a theme park at Alum Bay for the family visitors to enjoy and plenty of accommodation options on the island including hotels , guest houses and camping opportunities. The bay is set in a delightful part of what remains a largely unspoilt rural island.

There are a variety of crossing options to the Isle of Wight from the mainland, including foot and car services from either Portsmouth or Southampton .
