for Blessing the Sea and Diving for the Cross as your favourite British event.

This colourful annual event begins with a service at St Michael the Archangel, the Greek Orthodox Church at Westbrook, followed by a procession to the Nayland Rock area of Margate main sands, with mayors and dignitaries from across Kent taking part.
Blessing the Sea and Diving for the Cross is then carried out when a young member of the Greek community plunges into the icy seas to retrieve an ornate cross to symbolise the baptism of Jesus in the river Jordan.
