for May Day Fun at Cranbury Park as your favourite British event.

Latest review - excellent old fashioned fun my 6year old really enjoyed it especially the ferret racing.

Date visited: 2009 ...More

On Monday May 4th, the grounds of Cranbury Park will once again ring with laughter and music as the traditional May Day celebrations will be held in aid of St Matthew’s Church. This unique event has become a firm family favourite day out; and the grounds of Cranbury Park, which are not normally open to the public, are being provided as a stunning backdrop for the celebrations with the kind permission of the owners Major and Mrs Nigel Chamberlayne-MacDonald.

Highlights of the day will include the crowning of the May Queen, elected by the pupils of Otterbourne Primary School and maypole dancing by the school children.

Other attractions included in the action packed programme include returning favourites from previous years such as Otterbourne’s own brand of “Morris dancers”, miniature steam train and horse-drawn carriage rides, the fun dog show and children’s cricket and races. In addition, this year’s programme will include falconry displays, Punch and Judy and ferret racing.

Musical entertainment will be provided by the Cavalier Jazz Band, the Spitfires Marching Scout Band and the Crestwood School Steel Band. Refreshments available will include a hog-roast, a barbeque and a licensed bar, serving real ale and scrumpy.

The gates will open at 12.30 pm with the grand opening at 1.15. Entrance prices are £2 per adult and 50p per child. Parking is free, dogs are welcome and there will be accessible parking and toilets. Cranbury Park is close to Junction 12 of the M3 and will be clearly signposted from there.
