English poet and poet laureate, an early craftsmen of modern English verse. Best known for The Faerie Queen, an epic poem celebrating the Tudor dynasty and Elizabeth I. He intended twelve books of the poem, but left only six complete books and some stanzas from a seventh before his death. It remains the longest epic poem in the English language.
