Born 1905. Died 1975 - English embryologist and geneticist.
Studied geology at Cambridge before turning to embryology. Professor of Animal Genetics at Edinburgh University. Wrote standard textbook of embryology. Popular books included The Ethical Animal (1960) and Biology for the Modern World (1962).
