Born 1927. Died 2004 - English pharmacologist and Nobel Prize winner.
Studied at Birmingham and Oxford. Discovered a type of prostaglandin which inhibits blood clots. Highlighted the role of aspirin in treating pain. Shared the 1982 Nobel Prize for physiology or medicine for this work. Knighted in 1984.
