Born c1611. Died 1660 - Scottish writer.
Knighted by Charles I in 1641. Best known for his two works. His Gargantua and Pantagruel (a translation of Rabelais, Books 1 and 2 published 1653 and Book 3, published posthumously) and Ekskybalauron or The Jewel (1652). He died abroad allegedly in a fit of laughter on hearing of the Restoration of Charles II.
