Known as the Water-poet. Served in navy. Kept public house in London where he wrote his doggerel poems. Described his journey on foot from London to Edinburgh in Penniless Pilgrimage (1618). Other books included Travels in Germaine (1617) and The Praise of Hempseed (1618).
