Born 1674. Died 1718 - English poet and dramatist.
Called to the Bar but from 1692 devoted himself to writing. Produced eight plays between 1700 and 1715 including The Tragedy of Lady Jane Grey (1715). Appointed Poet Laureate in 1715.
