Born 1787. Died 1865 - Scottish naturalist and explorer.
Surgeon in Royal Navy from 1807 to 1855. Served in the Arctic expeditions with William Parry and John Franklin. Contributed to knowledge of ichthyology of Indo-Pacific region.
