Born 1873.  died 1957 - English novelist.
Moved to London after mother’s suicide.  Became a Fabian, had affair with H G Wells.  Started writing career with works on Quakers and George Fox.  First novel Painted Roofs (1915) began a 12 volume sequence named Pilgrimage ending with Dimple Hill (1938).
