Born 1510. Died 1558 - English mathematician.
Studied medicine at Cambridge. Was physician to Edward VI and Mary I. Wrote English textbooks on elementary arithmetic and algebra. Introduced the equals sign to mathematics. Imprisoned after a lawsuit brought against him by the Duke of Pembroke, where he died.
