Born 1940 - English television presenter and producer.

Educated at Somerville College, Oxford. Joined the BBC in 1963 making sound effects for radio drama. Moved into research; writing, producing and presenting That’s Life (1973-94), a programme based on investigative journalism. Hosted a teatime talkshow on BBC, called Esther, which gained two BAFTA nominations. Won BAFTAs Richard Dimbleby Award for factual TV in 1988. Campaigns against child abuse and drug addiction.
