1771 -1858. Welsh social and educational reformer.

Son of a saddler. By age of 19 was manager of a cotton mill. Established a model community in New Lanark with improved housing and working conditions, a school and a village store. Toured the country making speeches on his experiments. Established a new community in America, New Harmonoy, based on his socialist ideas. Sold his textile mills in 1827 and spent rest of is life helping various reform groups.
