Born 1558.  Died 1625 - English dramatist, romance writer and poet.
Educated at Trinity College, Oxford.  Wrote romances including his best known work Rosalynde (1590).  Other works included The Wounds of the Civil War, A Looking-glass for London and England and a collection of poems.  Went on expeditions to the Canaries and South America.  Took a medical degree at Avignon, wrote Treatise of the Plague (1603).
