After taking a journalism course at the Polytechnic of Central London and working as a journalist for local and national papers, Annie Nightingale found her way onto the nation’s airwaves in 1970 as the first female DJ on Radio 1, and she has pretty much remained there ever since, on that station and Radio 2. Always a champion of the new over the established her shows have made for interesting and evolving listening, a similar quality seen during her time as the main presenter of The Old Grey Whistle Test.
