BOOK THIRSK HOTELS

Thomas Lord
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Thirsk, North Yorkshire
Born on 23rd of November 1755
Died in West Meon, Hampshire
Died on 13rd of January 1832

Lord was born in Thirsk, spent his childhood in Diss in Norfolk, and moved to London to make his living as a professional cricketer – he was a bowler of some note in his day – and groundsman. Members of the club that employed him asked Lord to find more private grounds, and provided financial backing, thus he established the original Lord’s Cricket Ground in Dorset Square. It later moved, in a fairly literal sense as much of the turf was transported, to a new location in St John’s Wood.
