Marlon Devonish is perhaps best known for being a member of the British 4x100m sprint team that took a sensational gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. Devonish teamed up with Jason Gardener, Darren Campbell and Mark Lewis-Francis for the 4 x 100m relay. The quartet pulled off a sensational victory over the pre-race favourites, the United States team, by just 0.01 seconds, in a season's best time of 38.07.

He was also part of the team that produced a repeat performance to win another gold, this time at the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg. The trip to Sweden proved to be a worthwhile one for Devonish who also secured a bronze medal in the 200m sprint.

He is a member of the Coventry Godiva Harriers athletics club and is coached by Tony Lester.

Always a natural athlete he won the English Schools 200m back in 1994 and then the 100m in 1995. He also took double gold at the 1995 European Junior Championships. The Coventry born sprinter claimed his first world title at the 2003 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham when he took the 200m indoor world title.

Devonish became the first man since the great Linford Christie (1988) to win both the 100m and 200m races at the British Championships (and team trials for the 2006 European Championships) in July 2006. He took the bronze medal in the 200m
at the subsequent European championship finals.

Devonish then retained his 100m title at the British Championships in the 2007 season where he bettered his own previous performance in the 100m with a new personal best. He ran again in the 100m sprint at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka rather than the 200m discipline he had previously favoured. Devonish finished 6th in the 100m final.

Marlon Devonish was picked to represent Britain in the 200m event at the Beijing Olympic Games 2008.
