Myles Standish
Born in Ormskirk, LancashireBorn in 1584
Died on 3rd of October 1656
It is not entirely certain that Standish was born in Lancashire, though the lands he held were almost all in the county, and one of his contemporary fellow leaders in the Plymouth Colony wrote that he came from the Red Rose County. After service as a soldier of fortune in the Netherlands Standish, though probably never of their particular sect, was recruited to provide military support to the Pilgrim Fathers on the Mayflower and afterwards. He filled this role this actively (and at times brutally), and then as an adviser as he retired to a life of farming.
