BOOK HOLBORN HOTELS

Henry Addington
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Holborn, London
Born on 30th of May 1757
Died on 15th of February 1844

The Tory Henry Addington served as British Prime Minister after the resignation of Pitt the Younger in 1801, his wobbly government lasting until 1804. He is more notable, as Viscount Sidmouth as he became in 1805, for the severity of his long period in office as Home Secretary – he put down the Luddites brutally, and felt it necessary to suspend the Habeas Corpus Act, a cornerstone of our judicial system.
