BOOK KNARESBOROUGH HOTELS

Mother Shipton
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire
Born in 1488
Died in 1561

Mother Shipton is the way in which Ursula Southill (and many variations on that surname, spelling being flexible in her time) is referred to today. Little precise information remains about her, though it is probable she earned her living by fortune telling. It is unclear if she actually did make any of the many predictions with which later generations credited her, as the first book of them appeared long after her death, and subsequently others were published that are known to be false.
