Robert Sherard
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Putney, London
Born on 3rd of December 1861
Died on 30th of January 1943

Sherard was a biographer who spent most of his life in France, where he came to know many of the day’s great literary figures, writing biographies of Daudet, Maupassant, and Zola. He was also a prolific novelist, and wrote works on social matters, but is remembered today as the friend and defender of Oscar Wilde, whom he knew before the great scandal that ruined the playwright’s reputation in his own time. Sherard stood by his friend then and later, publishing his ‘Oscar Wilde: the Story of an Unhappy Friendship’ after the great wit’s death.
