Edward Sharpey-Schafer

Sir Edward Sharpey-Schafer was effectively the original endocrinologist, given the term endocrine was his creation (as was the word insulin), and that with a colleague he discovered adrenaline. He studied at UCL, where he was professor from 1883 to 1899, thereafter holding a similar position at Edinburgh University until 1933. His work saw him knighted in 1913, having already been made FRS at the very young age of 28.
