George Selwyn
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Hampstead, London
Born on 5th of April 1809

George Selwyn in his youth was known as both a scholar and an athlete during his time at Eton and St John’s College, Cambridge – he was indeed one of the Cambridge crew in the first ever Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race. After time as a don and a school teacher, where his organisational gifts were demonstrated, he was offered the post of Bishop of New Zealand (and then Primate of New Zealand), roles he held from 1841 to 1868, when he became Bishop of Lichfield. Selwyn College, Cambridge was created and endowed in his memory.
